House Clearance Lancaster Case Study

Our team carry out property clearances in Lancaster and other areas of Lancashire on a regular basis. Below is a case study of a recent property clearance carried out on behalf of a customer in Lancaster:

Customer Requirements

Our client contacted us through our website. Following his mother’s passing, her home – a 1940s detached property with 40 feet of garden and a garage – remained in the family in Lancaster. The client had returned from overseas for the funeral but due to work commitments was unable to clear out his mother’s house. As an only child he was solely responsible for taking care of her affairs.

Our customer requested us to go through his mother’s items and emptying the family house, garage and garden. We took extra care to conserve any essential documents, photos or objects that may have value such as antiques and jewellery. Our team made sure they could recognise these valuable possessions if they were present. Following the home clearance, just a bit of tidying was required to complete the task in the garden.

We found nothing of much financial value in the house during the house clearance. His mother’s wedding and engagement rings had already been given to the customer by the undertaker, while the pieces of jewellery we discovered didn’t have much worth. Nevertheless, sensing they may have sentimental importance, we kept them for our client. Interestingly, we uncovered a collection of photo albums full of pictures of family life and outings – something our client hadn’t seen since he was young. Upon sending them to him in South Africa, he was obviously pleased! The remaining items were donated to a charity furniture project in Lancaster or taken to the recycling centre by our house clearance specialists.

The client was unable to personally inspect our work, however we sent him snapshots of the tidy house and garage, which he approved. Responding about the family photos we had found, he showed his appreciation for the memories of his parents and childhood it evoked.

What If The Property Needs Cleaned?

We offer a same day cleaning service for an additional fee after the clearance is complete which is ideal if the property is going up for rent or sale.

Please beware when using the services of a house clearance company that undercharges. Many of our past customers have asked why there is such a difference in what some companies charge compared to others and the answer is – the biggest expense a legitimate house clearance company incurs is disposing of waste legally. So be aware of any companies who quote a ridiculously low price as they are most likely disposing of the waste illegaly. It always pays to use a fully licensed, reputable company because in the end it is you who will pay the price if your waste is fly-tipped. Read our How Much Does House Clearance Cost Guide
